5. Fulfillment of Prophecy
Throughout the Old Testament, prophecies point towards a Messiah who would save humanity from sin by becoming the sin bearer:
But he was wounded for our transgressions;he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5).
The New Testament reveals that Jesus has already fulfilled over three hundred prophecies written in the Old Testament (Tanakh). The following ten fulfilled prophecies are for your consideration:
1. The virgin birth – Isaiah 7:14/Matthew 1:22-23
2. A Son will be given - Isaiah 9:6/Mathew 16:16, John 1:14
3. Royal (Davidic) ancestry - Isaiah 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5-6/Matthew 1:1
4. The birth in Bethlehem - Micah 5:2/ Matthew 2:5-6
5. Location and nature of His ministry - Isaiah 9:2, Isaiah 61:1-3/Matt. 4:12-16, Matthew 11:2-6, Luke 4:14-21
6. Enters Jerusalem on a colt - Zechariah 9:9/Matt. 21:4-5
7. Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver - Zechariah 11:12-13/Matt. 27:6-10
8. His death/crucifixion - Isaiah 53, Psalm 22/Matt. 27
9. Buried in a rich man’s tomb - Isaiah 53:9/Matt. 27:57-61
10. Resurrection - depicted in Jonah 1:17 - 2/Matt. 12:38-40
6. Restoration of Relationship
Salvation is not just about escaping punishment; it is about restoring the broken relationship between God and humanity. Through God's saving grace, believers are adopted into His family and can enjoy fellowship with Him:
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)
The Lord Jesus longs to have sweet fellowship with us through the Holy Spirit. Spending time with Him in prayer and reading His word enables us to deepen our knowledge and experience of the Godhead.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20)
